The Full Story
Matthew Ellsberry, also known as Mells B, was born and raised on the west side of Detroit. Eventually, while a teenager, he and his family moved to the suburbs in search of better education and more diversity. Mells B was exposed to many new experiences and hobbies at an early age including sports, music and performing arts. Matthew’s father, a notable figure in Detroit, managed some of Detroit’s top music acts and owned music studios for over 25 years. Matthew learned to play the guitar and cello at an early age and naturally gravitated to the classic sounds of Motown and his favorite artist, Michael Jackson. At the age of 9, his skills even led him to secure the role of Michael Jackson for the Michael Jackson Tribute for the Detroit Pistons where he performed in front of 30,000 fans. This coupled with his family’s natural love for music made for the perfect situation to create a passionate, talented and unique combination of song-writer, hip-hop artist and music production engineer.
It wasn’t until the COVID pandemic that “Mells B” would be born. While attending Michigan State University, he was forced to move back home. It was during this time that he wrote his first song in 2021, a song titled “Life Goes On”. Since then, his passion, dedication and experience has grown tremendously. He has performed at shows with Ludacris, Sada Baby and has secured the attention of Grammy nominated producer, Pooh Beatz as well as many other notable producers and local artists with the ultimate goal of bringing music lovers all over the world a new sound from Detroit.
